This summer, eight Ulverston Victoria High School Sixth Form students will be joining three Ulverston businesses on a summer placement programme. Oxley Group, Bender UK and Siemens Subsea will be welcoming students to their businesses.
Each student will take on a specific live project and will be working towards a Gold CREST Award. All eight sixth form students are currently studying STEM related subjects with a view to either entering into a relevant career or continue studying STEM subjects further.
At Oxley the two students will be working together on a project involving development test boxes, reviewing the design, layout and assembly and verifying data. This will involve both mechanical and electronic disciplines to develop a final solution.
At the end of the assignment, each student will deliver a technical report and a presentation outlining the work they undertook and their findings. The technical report and presentation will form the foundation for their Gold CREST Award application. The students are being supported by The Ogden Trust’s Coastal Energy Internships that provides bursaries to sixth form students.
